Alexa is passionate about creating meaningful experiences and visual story-telling through design. Whether that be telling an analogy to explain or understand a concept or drawing a sketch to simplify an idea, she loves using design to make things easy to understand. Outside of design, she loves being active through playing soccer, CrossFit, and skiing. When she is spending time with family, playing board games, watching football, and eating good food and drinks are always part of the fun. Alexa regularly enjoys visiting new coffee shops to read, work or hang with friends.
Alexa collaborated with her friend, Gage McCall, in a design competition where they won 1st place at States and 3rd place at Nationals. Throughout her college education, she had the opportunity to intern at The Church Online and Mindful Kreative as a graphic designer. Before accepting her position at TiER1, she freelanced with two companies, Andocia Creative Agency and Drawn as a graphic designer. She has had a couple opportunities to create hand lettered signs for weddings and high school graduations. This has connected her to be used as a vendor through friends and family.
Alexa read a book called Start With Why by Simon Sinek. He talks about the companies who are really successful because they start with their why instead of what they do or how they do it. "People don't buy what you do, they buy why you do it." Alexa loves having that framework for any adventure she goes into. Identifying the why behind an idea, business, adventure, or experience taps into a sense of meaning/purpose that bring people together. She enjoys using design as a tool to create experiences that bring people together.
Alexa is a part of a blended family. She has two stepbrothers (Derek, Luke), two sisters (Amber, Olivia) and another older brother (Josh). For being a blended family, they get along well and have become known as the Finheads (Finnney and Headley). Alexa’s family has been a huge support system for her and is where a lot of her values come from.
Alexa’s favorite book is Everybody Always by Bob Goff. The book talks about loving everyone always no matter if they wronged you or a dear loved one. The front cover has a bunch of fingerprints on it. He talks about the purpose of those fingerprints in a chapter. Alexa created a frame that says 'Everybody Always' on it that hangs in her apartment. Anyone who comes over, she asks them if they would place their fingerprint on the frame to showcase that she is going to make the effort to love them individually always like the book describes. This book illustrates her value of loving others.
