Carlina Scalf
Ball State University
What She’s Passionate About
The power of well-crafted communication to propel action, change hearts, and move businesses forward. Above all, Carlina loves using the power of storytelling to connect others.
Her Professional Experience
Carlina is a recent graduate of Ball State University with degrees in English and journalism. She brings a background in research, editing, writing, and strategic communication to TiER1. As a college writer and reporter, Carlina published over 80 articles across three publications, with areas of focus including human interest stories, personal profiles, and culture and media essays. Her favorite college newspaper experience was interviewing Ball State alumnus Doug Jones, who starred in the Academy-Award-winning film The Shape of Water as the Amphibian Man.
Her Values in Action
Carlina has a special interest in female-driven stories and media, which she was able to explore at Ball State through participation on the crew of Amplified, a documentary about women in film sound, and through her Honors College storytelling thesis website, Project Brave Woman.
She’s Not All Business
When not at work, you can catch Carlina consuming lots of books, TV shows, and movies; writing about the media she’s consuming; or skimming the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly. She can’t live without Earl Grey tea, evening walks, or Spotify.
