What She’s Passionate About

Kellie enjoys thinking about how people process and retain information. She also gets excited about new technologies and how they affect learning.

What She Brings to the Table

Kellie taught writing, literature, and intercultural communications for nearly 20 years from DC (Howard University) to California (Cal State, Fullerton) with a few in-between (Ball State University, Robert Morris University, Point Park University). She has had a fascination with teaching and learning since childhood. Her first official teaching moment might have been around age 7 when she taught her 5-year-old neighbor how to swim in the kiddie pool. What drives her is seeing those "lightbulb moments" when the learning clicks.

Her Potential Fully Realized

Kellie's skills in instruction translate to some amazing talents in organization. Yes, she can redesign curriculum, but she has also helped many family members and friends bring order to their closets and cabinets. She gets as excited about junk drawers as Marie Kondo.

Unlikely Path

One of her first jobs was delivering exotic animals. Her father owns a business where he used to manage and sell reptiles, amphibians, and arachnids. Kellie delivered orders to regional pet shops. Her favorite memory was when she had an iguana escape and spent the drive basking below her rear window. Her dad now just deals in non-live goods (lights, bowls, etc.). There are fewer fun stories now, but she has a bunch from her childhood.

Favorite Book

Kellie's favorite book is Jean Toomer's Cane. It's a mix of short fiction, poetry, and drama. The book breaks many rules of convention and forces the reader to challenge their preconceived notions. She loves having discussions about the stories.
